While fans were keeping their fingers crossed for the new Deadpool 2 trailer to debut during the Super Bowl 52, the same didn’t happen. But, fortunately, the marketing team at Fox was able to grab fans’ attention during the big game between the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles.
It was when the pre-game festivities started kicking off; the Deadpool 2 marketing team took to Twitter to live-tweet amusing commentary for the entire game through the movie’s official Twitter account handle, @DeadpoolMovie.
The first tweet made fun about the budget of the movie studio saying that Fox made them live-tweet the game instead of paying a hefty amount for a spot to debut the Deadpool 2 trailer.
“Remember that time I was wrist-deep in cocoa butter and Fox called to say they were too cheap to buy a spot in the big game then told me I had to live-tweet it? Cause I do…” the account tweeted.
Undoubtedly, the Super Bowl is one of the most watched television events of the year. Many film companies and Hollywood Studios shell out a lot of money to buy TV slots, with thirty-second spots selling for over $5 million, to promote their upcoming films by releasing their film trailers during the football championship.
While Fox decided to skip, other studios have spent the buck to take advantage of the event. Marvel released a TV spot for Avengers: Infinity War while Universal Pictures dropped the second trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Interestingly, Marvel Studios used the same strategy last year to promote Thor: Ragnarok. The official Marvel Studios Twitter handle posted a couple of gifs and a small footage of Thor fighting Hulk during the Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor’s fight that attracted millions of viewers worldwide.
In another tweet, the official Deadpool 2 Twitter account commented on the game’s coin toss with a picture showing a customized coin featuring Wade Wilson. Fans can check out all the tweets below.
It is expected that the Deadpool 2 trailer will get released on February 14, 2018, and will come attached to Black Panther screenings in theaters. The untitled Deadpool sequel, which is directed by David Leitch and stars Josh Brolin, Zazie Beetz, and Morena Baccarin in the lead roles, will hit screens on May 18, 2018.

God, I love Pink (and not just the pop singer). Besides being my 2nd favorite shade of red, it's also the color of the inside of people's outsides and that lady biker gang from Grease. #DPtheSB

Ah, to be in Minnesota right now. Because there's nothing better than rolling around in some crisp white powder to get you through that 9 month season they call winter. #DPtheSB #SB52

Gronk reminds me of a cooler, more athletic, better looking Colossus. Hell of a tight end, too. #GronkSpike #DPtheSB #SB52
