Fans who have already watched Deadpool 2 in theatres feel that the film’s mid-credits scene was not justified. They got disappointed watching their favorite X-Force members plunge to death. The fans feel that Wade Wilson/Deadpool could have saved all the X-Force members instead of just saving Peter (Rob Delaney).
When Deadpool 2 star Ryan Reynolds recently appeared on The Empire Film Podcast, he was faced with the same question about Wilson’s decision to travel back in time and save Peter.
“So I love that he just completely ignores this marquee cast that he could’ve saved of useful and wonderful superheroes,” Reynolds said, “but instead went back and saved [Peter].”
Reynolds explained that Deadpool’s decision to save Peter has a deeper meaning behind it pointing out to one of the film’s earlier sequences. He recalled the sequence when both Wilson and Peter were in the helicopter and before jumping off Deadpool makes a promise to Peter that he will never let anything happen to him.
“So I felt like that was a promise that Wade made early on in the movie, and it was nagging him, so he went back and got Peter,” the Deadpool 2 actor said.
It will be interesting to see if Reynolds’ answer will be enough to satisfy Deadpool fans.
In other news, director David Leitch has confirmed that writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and Ryan Reynolds are currently working on an extended cut of Deadpool 2.
