Deadpool 3 rumor reveals Ben Affleck was on set & fans speculate its for Daredevil cameo but also discuss multiverse fatigue: ‘The real Multiverse of Madness’

Deadpool 3 could turn out into another Multiverse of Madness for the MCU with the latest rumor indicating Ben Affleck may have a role in the third installment. In fact, Marvel fans are certain the DCEU’s Batman star will portray 2003’s Daredevil, a character that many believed would only return in Avengers: Secret Wars.

The Fox’s X-Men, Fantastic Four and now Ben Affleck’s Daredevil – Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3 is starting to look like an overcrowded cameo-galore if all the rumors from insiders pan out. The threequel helmed by Shawn Levy is filming with cast Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in London but apparently, the duo stars weren’t alone. Affleck was also spotted on the set.

The report comes from scooper KC Walsh (known for dropping scoops on DC Film’s test screenings, cast details, etc) through a cryptic tweet featuring a gif of Ben Affleck and the Merc with the mouth. While the internet was quick to jump to conclusions – Walsh offered clarification that while Ben was on the Deadpool 3 set, the scooper has “no idea who he is playing or even if he is in the movie”.

Affleck’s appearance in the Marvel Studios film production has the comic book movie fandom convinced the actor dropped in play a brief role as Daredevil. The threequel is all but confirmed to be dealing with a multiverse narrative and seemingly involves the Deadpool Corps members like Lady Deadpool too. One Comic book movie enthusiast also compared the threequel to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness for including numerous Marvel characters.

Marvel fans are not happy with repetitive multiverse stories in CBM & hope Deadpool 3 is not impacted by it

Meanwhile, DCEU fans are already jesting over the Batman v Superman actor potentially appearing in the MCU, as one Twitter user noted, “Ben Affleck said, “I’m switching sides”. The DC Film fanbase is still irked over DC Studios’ failure to utilize Batfleck after bidding farewell to his iteration with a guest appearance on The Flash.

Recently, Kevin Smith on his podcast claimed that Zack Snyder’s Justice League star would accept reprising the Dark Knight down the line if the role is offered. Since then, the #Makethebatfleckmovie movement has gained some momentum though with Andy Muschietti signed on for DC Studios’ Brave and the Bold – even a discussion on a Batfleck origin movie could only take place way off in the future.

On the topic of Daredevil, there have been reports though unconfirmed by GFK – stating Reynolds was hoping to rope in Affleck to mock the state of DC Films. It wouldn’t come as a surprise since the Deadpool 2 had quips aimed at BvS’s Martha scene and mocking the overall franchise, “So dark. You sure you’re not from the DC Universe?”. The second installment even went to the lengths to break the fourth wall and jest around Ryan Reynolds accepting 2011’s Green Lantern.

Unfortunately, some fans are not happy with Marvel’s multiverse arc calling it “repetitive” and some going as far as saying, “I despise the multiverse”. The failure of The Flash appears to have ruined the experience for many but Merc with a Mouth fans believe Deadpool 3 could pull it since the fourth-wall-breaking character is a testament to it in the comics. In any case, the hope is the multiverse plot is put to rest after Avengers: Secret Wars.

Similar to the small yet growing concern over the multiverse fatigue, Even James Mangold has critiqued the return of Jackman’s Wolverine whilst also giving his take on comic book characters making a comeback even after their arc conclusion.

“I can’t say that there’s a part of me that doesn’t wish that we’d let it be,” Mangold said speaking to Variety. “But there was always going to be another Wolverine. There could be a baby Wolverine and a cartoon Wolverine. As much liquid as they can squeeze out of that rag, they’re going to try to. I don’t measure my success on a movie like Logan with whether we ended the conversation. I ended my conversation.”

Deadpool 3 will arrive in theaters on May 4, 2024.
