Marvel fans’ favorite duo, Ian McKellen‘s Magneto and Patrick Stewart‘s Professor X may return in Deadpool 3. The X-Men universe powerhouses were last seen together in Days of Future Past – though Stewart has already made his MCU debut playing a variant version of Charles Xavier for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Surprisingly, as Marvel Cinematic Universe’s multiverse exploration opens a pathway for Wolverine’s return – an insider indicates the same would apply for the two veteran Marvel characters as well.
It seems Charles and Magneto may have another reunion in store, or two according to a new insider report. Deadpool 3 is expected to dabble with time travel, a pivotal plot point for the threequel’s storytelling, especially since neither Marvel nor Hugh Jackman plans on retconning James Mangold‘s Logan ending. Similarly, it can be argued that Charles’ death in the 2019 post-apocalyptic western film would also remain unchanged.
Since Doctor Strange 2’s Professor X from Earth-838 was also killed off, it’s possible Marvel could introduce another multiverse variant for Deadpool 3. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Stewart hinted that he’s been asked “to stand by” on possibly reprising his role for the Merc with a mouth’s third installment.

Stewart then expressed that McKellen also showed interest in donning the red suit after learning about Charles Xavier’s appearance in Doctor Strange 2. “Actually, it went very well. He did say something like [‘Hey, I would’ve done this!’], yes, that’s true,” Stewart said. “But we’re not done, Sir Ian and myself. We’re… we got plans.”

Interestingly, it was reported that the third Deadpool film will see Wade Wilson messing with the flow of time using Cable’s time machine to save Wolverine. It eventually puts the two of them on TVA’s radar so it’s possible to conceive a scenario where the Merc with a mouth and Logan meet the X-Men duo at the TVA headquarters.
Meanwhile, Avengers: Secret Wars has long been speculated to be a cameo marathon fest with rumors that Kevin Feige hopes to reunite every live-action version of Marvel characters from the likes of Ben Affleck‘s Daredevil to Ioan Gruffudd‘s Mr. Fantastic. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Eric Magnus and Charles Xavier could have secured a spot in the big event blockbuster feature.
Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool 3 is scheduled to land in theaters on November 8, 2024.
