The Dwayne Johnson starring Black Adam trailer and the new character posters of JSA members Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge) and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) are winning over fans left and right. But one element from Atom Smasher’s costume has been called a Deadpool rip-off on social media. The upcoming standalone helmed by Jaume Collet-Serra is one of Warner Bros.’s DCEU titles releasing in 2022.
Comic book Twitter has been very chatty lately about Atom Smasher’s costume in Black Adam. The character poster of Centineo in the blue and red attire has left DC and Marvel fans divided as many compared the suit to Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool costume, particularly the eye-piece. Though fanatics defended the costume choice, calling it inspiration from the comic. Readers can check out reactions below.

Claiming that Atom Smasher is a copy of Deadpool is ironically sad, especially since Deadpool himself is a copy of Deathstroke. https://t.co/YXZN9AgQPF

Look, I know Atom Smasher looks like this in the comics but all I'm seeing is Deadpool with a degree in physics. LOL pic.twitter.com/5LiiCTEx4M

That’s literally his comic design with sleeves. God damn. Y’all see any character with white eyes without ears and go “HAHAHA DEADPOOL” like fuck off already.

Anticipation for Black Adam has been high with Johnson and the film’s producer Hiram Garcia teasing that the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe will change with Teth-Adam’s arrival. Also, the use of new technology to showcase Black Adam’s flight scene was spoken highly, “For example, the technology we’re using to make Black Adam fly has never been done before. It’s completely unique. It was critical for us to ensure that it felt special, authentic, and real,” said Garcia during a Collider interview, praising the Oscar-winning VFX team that’s working on the movie.
The first trailer assures a ruthless antihero, who once died as a slave but was reborn as a god – determined to deliver justice as he sees fit. However, the first look fairly hints at Black Adam teaming up with Justice Society of America too. Warner Bros. also released a few new hi-res stills (to which PursueNews got access) of Johnson’s Teth-Adam when he was a slave in Kahndaq.
Directed from a script penned by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, Black Adam also stars Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz, James Cusati-Moyer, Marwan Kenzari, Mohammed Amer, Bodhi Sabongui and Uli Latukefu.
Black Adam lands in theatres on October 21.
