Deathstroke May Have Been Removed From ‘The Batman’ Movie, Details

Matt Reeves’ upcoming movie ‘The Batman’ may not feature DC comics’ supervillain Deathstroke. The big news was recently revealed by ‘Arrow’ executive producer Marc Guggenheim. The showrunner talked about the future of the supervillain and his appearance on DC Extended Universe.

In a recent interview with Collider, Guggenheim confirmed a change in the script of ‘The Batman’ movie. Since Matt Reeves took over as the new director, a lot is expected to be changed in the original script from Ben Affleck and DC creative chief officer Geoff Johns.

In Affleck’s version of ‘The Batman’, the assassin was expected to appear as the main villain. Joe Manganiello was cast to make his first appearance as Deathstroke for a cameo in 2017’s  DC movie “Justice League” before going full-throttle in ‘The Batman.’ However, the new director is reportedly working on a new script which may no longer include Deathstroke.

“It was a function of… you know, DC control these characters. We went through a period where DC was like, ‘We’ve got plans for Deathstroke that don’t include Arrow.’ That changed at the end of this year,” Guggenheim told Collider.

It is almost certain that Deathstroke will not be a part of the upcoming standalone film. At the same time, speculations about Affleck’s involvement in the project are running rampant.

Earlier in an interview with Hollywood Reporter, Manganiello revealed that he knows about the future of Deathstroke. However, he restrained from giving away any information.

Meanwhile, ‘The Batman’ is expected to see the return of Affleck as the titular hero, J.K. Simmons as James Gordon and Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth. The studio is yet to reveal the movie’s official release date.

In the meantime, Deathstroke’s exclusion from DCEU has allowed the return of the supervillain in CW’s television series “Arrow.” Manu Bennett will reprise the role of fan-favourite villain in “Arrow” Season 6, premiering on Oct. 12 on The CW. The actor shared a photo of himself from series’ set on his official Instagram account. Scroll down to take a look at what is coming next.
