‘Demogorgon in the Flying Bark Style’ – Stranger Things fans weigh in on Netflix’s animation spin-off, Finn Wolfhard reveals when he’d begin filming Stranger Things 5

A Stranger Things animation spin-off on the lines of an 80s cartoon series has piqued anime fans’ curiosity and all it took is Flying Bark’s involvement in making the Netflix show. The project is in development with the Duffer Brothers executive producing it with Deadpool 3‘s Shawn Levy.

While fans have their eyes set on Stranger Things 5’s production – which is expected to roll cameras sometime this May, Netflix has also been working on expanding the universe. According to Variety, the streamer has ordered an animation series for Stranger Things “set within the world of the show”.

The Duffer Brothers‘ statement threw some light on the type of adaptation they plan to develop, saying it will be “in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons”. Moreover, the Stranger Things creator also hyped what’s in store by revealing they are “blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with”.

Flying Bark is turning out to be quite the selling point for Netflix’s Stranger Things cartoon series. Reactions on social media are filled with excitement over Flying Bark Productions (known for Glitch Techs) developing the animation spin-off. The company is also working on the untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender. Their involvement has many already sold on the cartoon adaptation, especially since witnessing their breathtaking works on What If…? and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Stranger Things fans ask for Hellcheer to be explored as a What If for animation series

It’s currently unclear if this animation series would center over fans’ favorite Hawkins school kids Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Noah (Will Byers) Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Caleb (Lucas Sinclair), Natalie (Nancy Wheeler), Joe (Steve Harrington) and Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton). If so, there’s already a growing anticipation to see the original cast voice their characters. While others are hyped to witness Flying Bark’s character designs of Stranger Things’ monsters such as Demodogs, Demogorgon, Spider Monsters, etc.

There are also requests ranging from “Give us the what if Chrissy lived story” to hopes to see Eddie’s backstory or better, to adapt Hellcheer – the heterosexual shipping of Chrissy and Eddie. All details in regards to the plot are under wraps but it seems like the project has been in development for a while since the Duffers mentioned “the scripts and artwork are incredible”.

In more Hawkins news, a video clip of Finn Wolfhard’s interview for a Japanese TV program is making the rounds on the internet. Finn reveals to the interviewer he will begin filming season 5 in May. David Harbour had earlier claimed production would kick off in June.

The Strangers Things animation series does not have a release date attached yet.
