Detective Pikachu Likely To Feature a Human Controlled Pokemon Villain

Detective Pikachu, the first live-action film from the incredibly popular video game franchise Pokemon, will see Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds bring the fan-favorite Pikachu to life on the big screen with his iconic voice and facial expressions.

The first Detective Pikachu trailer gave fans a glimpse of how Pokemon looks like in the real world, but it offered no real hint about who the film’s main villain is. A new report coming from We Got This Covered suggests Mewtwo will be the main antagonist of the upcoming film. The man-made Pokemon was cloned from the DNA of the mythical Pokemon Mew. It was originally introduced in Pokemon Red and Blue in 1996.

As per the report, the film will tell the origin story of the psychic Pokemon Mewtwo and how it evolved into becoming one of the movie’s antagonists. Interestingly, Mewtwo’s action will be controlled by a human villain. It currently remains unknown if it will be Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket who the character has a previous history with or a new original character who will use who will manipulate the Pokemon for their own agenda.

The Pokemon Company is also reportedly releasing Pokemon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back EVOLUTION in Japanese theatres on July 12, 2019.

Another report coming from Revenge of the Fans suggests Detective Pikachu will feature Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 2 co-actor, Rob Delaney, who played the non-powered Peter in the Deadpool sequel. It isn’t known yet if he’s playing a human or a Pokemon.

Director Rob Letterman’s Detective Pikachu is centered on the story of 21-year old Tim Goodman (Justice Smith), who goes on a mission to search for his missing dad Harry Goodman with the help of his father’s former partner Pikachu, whom only Tim can understand. The film also stars Paul Kitson,  Ken Watanabe, Kathryn Newton, Karan Soni, Suki Waterhouse, Bill Nighy, Rita Ora, Chris Geere, and Omar Chaparro.

Detective Pikachu will hit theatres on May 10, 2019.
