DeWanda Wise’s Netflix Schedule Causes Her Exit From ‘Captain Marvel’

Actress DeWanda Wise has reportedly decided to make an exit from Disney’s Captain Marvel which is Marvel Studios’ first female-fronted movie. According to a report coming from the Deadline, citing sources close to the film’s production, Wise’s exit from the movie is due to scheduling conflicts with her Netflix series She’s Gotta Have It, where Wise stars as Nola Darling. The series was renewed for a second season earlier this year.

Wise’s casting in the standalone MCU film was confirmed back in January. While detail about her character was kept undisclosed, it was speculated that she was roped in to portray the role of Monica Rambeau, aka Spectrum. It is currently unknown who the studio will hire to replace Wise.

As reported earlier, Captain Marvel is expected to begin filming on March 19 in Los Angeles. The production work will continue throughout the year and is scheduled to wrap in February 2019, a month away from its release. Notably, the film will go on a 2-month hiatus after a week into production.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel will be set in the 90s with the Skrulls as the primary villains. The film’s star cast includes Academy Award winner Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as Mar-Vell,  Gemma Chan as Kree geneticist and spy Minn-Erva and Ben Mendelsohn as the main antagonist of the film.

The film Captain Marvel is based on the character of Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel ( Brie Larson), an Air Force pilot whose DNA fuses with that of an alien during an accident, sending her headlong into an intergalactic adventure. The DNA alteration imbued her with the extraterrestrial powers of energy projection, strength, and flight.

Captain Marvel will land in theatres on March 8, 2019, so stay tuned to Pursue News for continuing coverage about the movie.
