Shazam! Fury of the Gods won’t release this 2022 during Christmas rather the DCEU sequel has landed a March 2023 release date. Its third premiere delay is connected to this year’s event movie from Disney, Avatar 2. Director David. F. Sandberg took to social media to clear the air among fans concerned over the film’s setback.
Shazam 2 is among the only few anticipated titles on the Warner Bros. Discovery DC Film slate, in fact, the second installment’s trailer reveal at SDCC received rave responses from DC fans on all fronts, including the Snyderverse followers. Aside from Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, and Jack Dylan Grazer reprising their roles from the first flick, the movie also boasts star-studded newcomers such as Lucy Liu’s Kalypso, Helen Mirren’s Hespera debuting as the Daughters of Atlas – the sequel’s big bads.
Sandberg was quick to respond to the Deadline report on release date shifts and clarified that Shazam 2 is “fully done in just a few weeks” but the move comes due to James Cameron’s high fantasy sequel “taking all IMAX/PLF screens”. The director also dismissed talks of possible reshoots stating, “No, I’m on the mix stage right now doing the final mix. The movie is almost done.”
Snow White star Rachel Zegler also addressed the release date change for Shazam 2 with a wholesome image posing with Levi and confirming the premiere was pushed back due to Avatar: The Way of the Water. Rest assured, Shazam! Fury of the Gods will release without any competition, as Sandberg desired. Though the DC fandom will have to wait longer to see Zegler’s Shazam photo dump.
While I’m an impatient bastard who wants people to see it as soon as possible (the film will be fully done in just a few weeks), the move makes sense since Avatar was taking all IMAX/PLF screens. Fury of the Gods is a big movie & should be seen big! https://t.co/ErzZu41HiD

The first Shazam! movie was a decent box office success earning $366 million worldwide. With no other notable blockbusters competing with the second installment’s release in March 2023, the movie could surpass its earlier record and perhaps even earn a greenlight for a threequel.
Shazam 2 was directed from a script penned by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan, the sequel also stars Grace Fulton, Megan Good, Cooper Andrews, Jovan Armand, Djimon Hounsou, Marta Milans, and D.J. Cortrona.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods will arrive in theaters on March 17, 2023.
