Finally, we have some new update on the most awaited Star Wars movie, Star Wars: Episode IX. The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams, who is also directing the final film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, recently revealed that the production work on Star Wars: Episode IX will begin this summer.
Abrams revealed the update through a video greeting which was presented at Japan’s D3 expo this weekend by Ricky Strauss, Marketing President at Walt Disney Studios. The director informed the fans that he is currently busy co-writing the upcoming finale screenplay with Chris Terrio and that he will begin directing the film this summer.
Initially, Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow was directing Star Wars: Episode IX. However, last year in September, Disney and Lucasfilm confirmed that Trevorrow was made to step down from the director’s chair due to major creative differences. He was later replaced by J.J. Abrams.
Episode 9 was previously scheduled to get released in May of 2019. But, due to production issues, the film’s release has been postponed to December 20, 2019. The fact that Abrams is still working on the film’s script hints that fans will have to wait for long to get some hint about the film’s plot. It is expected that Episode 9 will follow on from the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
The Last Jedi director, Rian Johnson, received a lot of backlash from the fans for some of the decisions that he made with the film’s story.
Talking about Star Wars: Episode IX star cast, it is expected the film will see the return of some of the characters featured in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Fans are expecting to see the return of Mark Hamill as a Force Ghost version of Luke Skywalker alongside Yoda and Obi-Wan in the upcoming film. Meanwhile, there’s another Star Wars film titled Solo: A Star Wars Story that is in line for its May 2018 release.
