Director of DCEU’s super hit film Wonder Woman, Patty Jenkins confirmed during an interview that her upcoming film Wonder Woman 2 is already in full-blown pre-production.
Wonder Woman was one of the biggest hits for the DC Extended Universe. As per Box Office Mojo, the film grossed at 821.8 million USD worldwide, while it fetched approximately 412.6 million USD at the domestic box office. The charm of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot) trained to be an unconquerable warrior made its way into the hearts of the audience. Fans loved to see a strong woman take on evil forces and put them in place. The quiet romance and humor too were well appreciated by the moviegoers.
Patty Jenkins is now back with Wonder Woman 2. Even though there is not much information coming out from the studios at the moment, we sure know that the film is in the pre-production stage. The director was named in Bloomberg 50 and during the discussion with Jill Soloway and Patty Jenkins about why diversity and bankability in Hollywood shouldn’t be considered mutually exclusive, David Walters questioned Jenkins on how she felt regarding Wonder Woman’s $149 million budget.
45-year-old Patty Jenkins, the first woman to direct a big-budget superhero movie, replied, “People always want to know what it’s like to take on such a huge budget. I still have 20 percent too little money and 20 percent too little time to do what I’m trying to do. We’re in full-blown pre-production on the sequel. I love Wonder Woman, and I believe in Wonder Woman, and I can’t believe how lucky I am to have this in the palm of my hand right now.”
Teasing the plot of Wonder Woman 2, Jenkins, in an interview with Variety‘s Playback podcast, said late last week that the sequel will show off another “great love story”. She then further said, “Because she is Wonder Woman and she’s here now and she’s fully developed, it’s got great fun from the start and great big superhero presence from the start, and is funny and a great love story again, and a couple new unbelievable characters who I’m so excited about, who are very different than were in the last movie.”
Wonder Woman 2 is set against the ’80s background and possess a Cold War narrative. The film is scheduled to hit the theaters on November 1, 2019.
