Director Ryan Coogler has teased that MCU’s upcoming Black Panther is meant to be the studios’ version of James Bond movie. In a recent interview, he explained what makes the film more interesting and special compared to the rest of the other titles released by far in the cinematic universe.
Black Panther will be the 18th title in Kevin Feige’s planned 22-movie arc. It will set up the events for the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.
In a recent interview with TotalFilm, Director Ryan Coogler spoke about a point that was discussed between him and the studio when they first started having a conversation about Black Panther. From the looks of it, it seems like the director’ pitch about portraying T’Challa in the shoes of James Bond was a convincing factor for Marvel to leave the film’s responsibility in his hands. Here’s what he had to say:
“When I first started talking to Marvel, one thing they were interested in was for Panther to be their version of James Bond, which I thought was incredibly interesting and exciting. It was a really outside-of-the-box way to look at T’Challa. There are some Bond films that I really, really like, and it gave me the opportunity to go watch some other ones.”
It’s quite an interesting way of depicting the world of Wakanda and T’Challa in the first standalone film for Black Panther. Fans must take note that James Bond, in his film, isn’t a one-man army. In fact, the spy is only as good as his team and the gadgets provided by them.
Black Panther is set to hit theaters on February 16th this year. Earlier this month, the studio also released a new trailer featuring new scenes from the film. The movie is expected to have a massive opening in the domestic and international box office.
