Disney Plus Germany announced Doctor Strange 2 OTT release date, but there’s a catch

Doctor Strange 2 is reportedly releasing on Disney Plus this June stated an official post from the mouse house’s OTT social media. Disney’s exclusive theatre window for past MCU titles like Eternals was scheduled to follow the same strategy. However, there’s a catch.

The Benedict Cumberbatch starring Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness just completed its 2 weeks run on the big screen raking in $719 million at the global box office and still counting. While its theatrical run is far from over, Marvel Studios seems to have already scheduled Doctor Strange 2 OTT release date for Disney Plus.

According to Disney Plus Germany’s June 2022 highlights, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be available to stream from June 22. But the drawback? The Instagram post was deleted just minutes after it went up with fans wondering if the Multiverse of Madness streaming release date was an error or removed because it’s yet to be officially announced.

Disney’s exclusive 45-day theatrical release window was announced for 2021 titles like Eternals, West Side Story, The King’s Man, etc. But even the Chloe-Zhao helmed MCU ensemble ran close to 10 weeks in theatres. Shang-Chi the Legend of the Ten Rings had a bigger window of 70 days and was released in IMAX enhanced version in the US on Disney Plus Day. But to clarify, Marvel Studios’ official press release on the theatre window stated it would be a “minimum” of 45 days so maybe it’s possible for a flick to earn an extended cinema run based on success.

It’s likely the above-mentioned release date was an error quickly rectified by folks at Disney+. But a plausible release date for Doctor Strange 2 could be in July end, aligning with Thor: Love and Thunder’s theatre release. The Sam Raimi-directed sequel’s earnings on the second weekend have slumped down, with many sighting the movie’s bad word of mouth as the reason and its average Cinemascore.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is available in theatres.
