Doctor Strange 2 trailer: Professor X, Ultron robots, Evil Wanda & more as MCU fans breakdown Super Bowl teaser

Marvel Studios’ 2022 Super Bowl commercial for Doctor Strange 2 has left MCU fans with a lot to digest, with new footage confirming a Fox-made Marvel character’s cameo – Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier, the leader of the X-Men. But if that wasn’t enough, the 2-minute long trailer offered new glimpses of not just Benedict Cumberbatch’s Evil Sorcerer Supreme but even an evil Wanda (Elisabeth Olsen), as depicted in the episode “What If… Zombies?!” in Marvel’s What If…? series.

The new Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer shows phase 4’s multiversal chaos arc beginning to unwind as a result of strange tampering with the mystic arts. Fans on social media are already sounding off their theories, with one particular shot seemingly hinting at MCU’s Illuminati with Professor X among the founders. Added, the sequence also shows Ultron-styled robots while Stephen is handcuffed and presented to the mysterious panel board.

A Captain Marvel-esque character is shown fighting Wanda but it doesn’t seem to be Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel rather Teyonah Parris’s Monica Rambeau or Lashana Lynch‘s Maria Rambeau. Since the multiverse is in play –it’s unclear till Marvel Studios officially confirms.

Aside from the main trailer, an additional Doctor Strange 2 TV spot containing a few new scenes aired on television. Wanda’s zombie variant is the showstopper of the promo but a glimpse of Doctor Strange’s evil variant and possibly Defenders Strange was also in the 30-second clip. Readers can check it out below.

It remains to be seen if other rumors pertaining to the multiversal variant cameos also turn out to be true with many fans in support of seeing Tom Cruise’s version of Iron Man. So far, online dissent has continued to uncover more new details thanks to eagle-eyed fans – as seen in some of the tweets below.

Doctor Strange in the multiverse of Madness arrives in theatres on May 6.
