In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, It seems Dr. Stephen Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) desecration of reality will truly not go unpunished, at least in the eyes of the Illuminati. Yes, Marvel Studios has officially confirmed the existence of the secret organization in a new brief promo titled “Time” and its likely Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Mordo is also a member or serves under them.
Since the official trailer’s release for Doctor Strange 2 in February, MCU fans have long debated the mysterious council shown in the promotional video is in fact the Illuminati and Patrick Stewart’s Professor X among them. While the X-Men leader’s presence is more or less confirmed, the secret organization seemed like a farfetched rumor. However, with the new teaser outright names dropping the council, it will be interesting to see the rest of the members. But what’s clear is Mordo arresting and presenting Stephen to the council.
Some initial rumors stated Mr. Fantastic is among the council and if even true, it’s unclear if it would be a variant or MCU’s iteration that will later be explored in the Jon Watts directed feature. Readers can check out the promo below.
In the beginning, Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez multiverse portal opening abilities are shown in the form of a star and Stephen jumping through it. The end sequence also shows Stephen facing a mystic purple dark energy though it’s uncertain if it could be Wanda’s (Elizabeth Olsen) chaos magic. A few new glimpses of Rachel McAdams’ Dr. Christine Palmer are also shown.
More new promos are surfacing online with the sequel days away from hitting theatres. One leaked TV spot shows what looks like Chavez’s first encounter with the Masters of Mystic art and the new Sorcerer Supreme (Benedict Wong). She explains her abilities and even throws Stephen into multiple parallel universes.
