A new report suggests the production and shooting of DC’s Black Adam might probably begin in 2019. It’s none other than Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson who has provided a fresh update on his Black Adam solo film. The film will mark Johnson’s first foray into the superhero world in which he will be seen playing Shazam’s nemesis Black Adam, a supervillain-turned-anti-hero.

Johnson, who is currently busy conducting a press tour for his upcoming film Rampage, recently caught up with Yahoo for an exclusive interview. When the actor was asked about Black Adam, he said that the film’s script is almost done and the shooting will most probably start by next year.

“The script came in, it’s great, we’re working on it,” Johnson said. “If things come together in the way we anticipate them coming together, that feels like a 2019 movie — in production.”

During the interview, The Rock praised Marvel’s cinematic universe and said that DC is still finding their footing and tone. He said that the filmmakers are currently working on finding out different ways to connect Black Adam with the rest of the DC Extended Universe.

“DC is doing a great job finding the footing and tone of their movies, with Wonder Woman and James Wan’s movie that’s coming out with Aquaman,” Johnson said.

He added that the anti-hero character represents a “phenomenal opportunity for us to nail the tone and make sure he’s badass — make sure we’re serving the mythology properly — but also have intrinsic DNA tied to a lot of other properties in DC.”

Undateable fame screenwriter Adam Sztykiel has penned down the script for Black Adam. The movie is currently without a director. If the shooting of Black Adam begins in 2019, it is highly likely that the film will get rolled out in 2020 or 2021.
