Dwayne Johnson stresses why Superman is important for DCU & talks years-long process to get Henry Cavill back

Henry Cavill’s Superman being back on the table for DCU still sounds like a pipedream but Dwayne Johnson made it into a reality through Black Adam. The Man of steel is still a major conversation driver among DCEU fans as WBD’s plans for the future remain a mystery with DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran working out their 10-year DC bible. But in the meantime, The Rock is leaving no stone unturned in reminding the fandom of the behind-the-scenes work that went in to bring back DC’s powerhouse.

With Black Adam finally available to purchase digitally, Johnson took to social media to praise the film’s success at the box office and for earning the number one spot on iTunes since its VOD release. In a video message, The Rock thanked his fans for their support as Black Adam arrived on all digital platforms, taking advantage of the Thanksgiving holiday. He eventually spoke about Henry Cavill’s Superman but rather went into detail regarding the earlier regime showing no interest in featuring DC Universe’s most powerful character

“We have to bring back the most powerful, unstoppable force of all time in any universe. You guys know who I’m talking about, it’s Superman. That’s Henry Cavill,” said Johnson. “At the end of the day, the studio wasn’t bringing Henry back, inexplicably and inexcusably but we weren’t going to take no for an answer, This has been years in the making, bringing Henry Cavill back with strategic conversations and we were not going to take no for an answer. For us, there’s no viable logical way to build out the DC Universe without the most powerful force and the greatest superhero of all time sitting on the sidelines, it’s impossible to do. You can Venn diagram this thing 90 times but it all comes back to, ‘Where’s Superman?’ You have to have Superman in the mix, so that’s why we fought hard to bring Superman back.”

Johnson has been candid multiple times when asked about the previous leadership’s plan for Superman. However, The Rock has not addressed Gunn’s intentions nor has responded to the director’s new position at WBD.

There’s no doubt both parties would be keen on fleshing out Superman since WBD head David Zaslav has repeatedly stressed Supes importance but Gunn, on the other hand, has also shown interest in expanding the universe with lesser-known characters as well. Moreover, it’s safe to say all rumored reports regarding the Man of Steel 2 project should be taken with a grain of salt since Gunn recently busted a report claiming Superman would make TV appearances.

Black Adam is still in theaters and as The Rock stated, the movie will remain in theaters through the holidays so moviegoers can experience it this Christmas as well, from the comfort of their homes or on the big screen.
