Echo series will not only uncover Maya Lopez’s (Alaqua Cox) backstory & her roots but will also hint at Kingpin’s forthcoming rise as New York City’s Mayor in Daredevil: Born Again. The Hawkeye spin-off is expected to land on Disney Plus this November, releasing all episodes on its premiere day similar to Netflix’s binge-watch release model. The show will explore Maya’s native connection while she is forced to face the horrors of her past which involves Fisk too.
Maya Lopez’s encounter against Wilson Fisk in the Hawkeye finale was left on a cliffhanger. So it was evident Echo would be forced to face her adoptive father in the upcoming standalone series. While it’s unclear how Fisk managed to survive the point-blank gunshot to his face – the set photos for Daredevil: Born Again have assured Wilson has no injuries and looks his best.
In any case, it seems Maya may see the darker side of Wilson Fisk in the Echo series as according to insider CWGST, Kingpin is the main antagonist of the Alaqua Cox starrer show. But yet again, Wilson is defeated and “escapes back to New York” licking his wound.
Wilson’s idea to rise back to power will reportedly be hinted at in Echo. During his flight back, he listens to the news and learns about the next mayoral race, signaling the rise of Mayor Fisk in Daredevil: Born Again.

Surely, defeating the Kingpin is no easy task and going by earlier reports, Maya won’t be alone since Daredevil and a surprising addition, Krysten Ritter‘s Jessica Jones are expected to play a part in the series. Although it’s unknown if the two help Maya in defeating Kingpin – she may not need their aid if CWGST’s earlier scoop pans out.
Aside from her photographic reflexes, Lopez apparently manifests enhanced abilities which appear as spiral tattoos on her hands. This grants her enhanced strength and for those wondering, Yes, her powers are indeed related to her Chocktaw ancestors. This is plausible as the show’s synopsis teased Lopez reconnecting with her Native American roots to face her past.
While Maya does not have any natural-born cosmic abilities in Marvel comics, she does acquire the Phoenix Force at one point and becomes an omnipotent force to be reckoned with. Although the live-action does not seem to be going in that direction – it is interesting to see the new power additions to her character.
Echo is scheduled to release all episodes on November 29.
