Expectations are high for Marvel’s upcoming ensemble film, Eternals, as the film introduces a new group of superheroes in the MCU. Luckily, Monday night’s world premiere has already unleashed massive praises towards the star-studded cast as well as Oscar-winning director Chloe Zhao.
Marvel’s Eternals opened to a large audience on its world premiere at the iconic El Capitan theatre in Los Angeles. The 26th entry in Marvel cinematic universe is still yet to lift the official review embargo, set to end at 11 a.m. PT. October 24th. However, the embargo on social media reaction was lifted just after its premiere.
Reactions so far have been positive with most critics praising the film’s representation with a diverse cast including Marvel’s first deaf role played by Lauren Ridloff. Moreover, it seems the studio may have picked off some pages right from the DC cinematic Universe as entertainment journalist Scott Menzel states, “Eternals is Marvel’s version of Zack Snyder’s Justice League.”
Few other critics such as Forbes’ Scott Mendelson have also compared Eternals to the likes of “Marvel playing in the DCEU sandbox.” From the looks of it, it seems the comparison have risen due to similarities in Marvel’s attempt at introducing a new superhero team with a lengthy ensemble movie rather than choosing the typical route in establishing each with their own stand-alone titles.
Some critics have stuck their praises to Chloe Zhao for getting it right again, fresh off her Oscar win for Nomadland. Readers can check out their reactions below.
Eternals is Marvel’s version of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. A film that builds upon a cast of unknown characters and does so with great success. Chloé Zhao direction is superb. Easily one of the best looking Marvel films of all time. Insane post credits scenes too. #Eternals pic.twitter.com/TbZlqPJxGQ

#Eternals is surprising, epic, beautiful yet dense. It takes some big swings, sometimes feels like a DC film (not a criticism), other times feels like no other superhero movie ever. I wish I had a glowing quick reaction to offer you but I’m left with more complex thoughts.

#Eternals flirts with being "just a superhero movie" but (barely) gets by on scale, a few affable actors and some eventual intrugue. At its best, it almost plays like Marvel playing in the DCEU sandbox but coasting on comparatively generic superhero archetypes. pic.twitter.com/Im83hV6sm0

#Eternals was one of my most anitcapted movies of the year and I’m happy to report that it did not disappoint at all. Chloé Zhao takes you on a thrilling and emotional journey. The visuals are incredible and the cast absolutely kills it. The cosmic side of the MCU is expanding🔥 pic.twitter.com/fvqOtuAuxb

Haven't felt this giddy after a movie since The Avengers. Goosebumps. Incredible action, both planetary & interstellar and looks GORGEOUS. Most importantly, it feels like a live action anime! Can't wait to talk about Makkari & Kingo! 😥Those end credits 🤯! #Eternals pic.twitter.com/htspR64EZM

Chloé Zhao’s #Eternals is absolutely fantastic, the cookie cutter Marvel template is thrown out the window and you’re given an enthralling experience, a must watch this year. #Sersi #Ikaris #Kingo #Thena #Phastos #Druig@TheMoviePodcast review coming soon. pic.twitter.com/aZaMNfg0Vu

It must be noted with the James Gunn directed Guardians of the Galaxy; Marvel has succeeded in introducing new ensembles. But it can be argued that introducing Eternals is more complex due to more members among their group as well as establishing their storyline as characters that have remained in existence since the inception of MCU.
Eternals will hit theatres on November 5.
