It looks likes Nu Image/Millennium chief Avi Lerner would be convincing more than just one actor to stay on board for The Expendables 4. Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently revealed to EW that he will not be part of the project as well.
Schwarzenegger does not seem to have much hope for the franchise without Sylvester Stallone. The Terminator actor said he won’t play a role in The Expendables 4 if Stallone isn’t part of it.
There is no Expendables without Sly,” said Schwarzenegger. “I would never do the movie without him, no.”
Last week, Stallone shocked his fans with the announcement of his back out from The Expendables 4 and the franchise as well. It was revealed that the Rocky actor chose to exit due to creative differences with Lerner over the making of the fifth installment in the franchise.
According to Lerner’s statement to Deadline, he states this is not the end of the story. Moreover, he believes they reconcile once again and carry on with the project.
Schwarzenegger, on the other hand, has revealed his concerns with the project itself. Furthermore, it looks like even Sly’s return might not convince the Terminator actor to stay on board. Unless, according to him, they give priority to his character as well.
“You know, I think the first and second one were terrific,” said Schwarzenegger. “But, the third one, I thought my part was not written well. It was also not playing well in the movie, as far as I was concerned. Maybe other people believed differently. But I didn’t believe that I had any value in the movie. I love the franchise, by the way. I think it’s a spectacular franchise, The Expendables. I think that Sly has good ideas, what he wants to do with it, and I think if they write a really good script [in] which my part is very well-developed, I would do it. If not, then I won’t do it.”
