In a previous interview with ComicBook.com, when director Ruben Fleischer was asked if there were certain Marvel characters that he wanted to use but couldn’t get the rights to, he was quick enough to mention about the web-slinger.
“I think there’s a pretty obvious one inherent to the Venom franchise that for whatever reason couldn’t be included in the film but I will say that I look forward to future movies where said character could perhaps run across Venom,” Fleischer said. “Nothing would be more exciting to see than a faceoff with Spider-Man.”
Fans are hopeful that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures will get on with their current deal and find a way to bring the two iconic characters together on the big screen for a future film.
Venom follows the story of a journalist named Eddie Brock who becomes host to a powerful and dangerous alien symbiote while investigating a company called Life Foundation that experiment on humans.
The film is currently playing in theaters.
