Riverdale season 6 episode 22, the much-anticipated finale had Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) save the day by stopping Bailey’s comet while looking like a Scarlet Witch rip-off. And to top it off, the final episode wrapped up with a reboot of sorts, taking the narrative back to 1955 where Archie (K.J. Apa), Betty (Lili Reinhart), Veronica (Camila Mendes), Cole Sprouse‘s Jughead (wearing his comic accurate hat) and the rest of the gang are back to their high school days. And clearly, the supernatural perplexing plotline of the penultimate season has fans baffled.
So Cheryl becomes a super-powered witch with Wanda-Esque features (though the costume and the Phoenix-like power share more resemblance to X-Men’s Jean Grey) and all thanks to Veronica’s brilliant idea to observe Archie and the rest of the gang’s abilities, much like Marvel’s Rogue and passes it on to Cheryl with a steamy kiss. All in hopes of stopping the comet, a parting gift from Percival Pickens. And no, not even Tabitha’s (Erinn Westbrook) time-traveling ability could change the impending result nor Jughead could jump the entire town out through portals.
The bizarre time jump gets more intriguing when Jughead reveals he is the only person in Riverdale with memories from B.C (Before comet). So it seems likely Riverdale season 7 will revisit its darker routes, especially since no good deed goes unpunished when messing with time travel. Unfortunately, it’s unclear if fans will get to see Archie and Betty get married in the B.C. timeline. Also, Abigail did warn Cheryl she may lose her powers by melting the comet, which would also result in the death of Archie, Jughead, Alice, Frank, Nana Rose, and the rest of the lives she resurrected. Could there be a workaround to this if season 7 goes to B.C? It’s unclear for now.
Funnily enough, Riverdale fans, or better put, ex-fans who gave up on the show during its declining zenith time were able to get a glimpse of where the Archie-based CW series currently stands. Many were left puzzled by the plot resembling superpowers and multiverse events from Marvel films. Though some backed the series creators pointing to Archie comics’ genre-bending storylines like the “Archie Meets The Punisher” one-shot crossover. Nonetheless, fan reactions on social media are priceless.
if you told me in 2018 that cheryl was going to save riverdale by the power of lesbianism and being literally scarlet witch i would have laughed in your face pic.twitter.com/PmZnVaMzqc

Riverdale is the perfect reflection of the zeitgeist in that there are no more boundaries between anything and making sense is purely optional. https://t.co/f1LMzuyFuC
