Mike Flanagan’s masterpiece miniseries Midnight Mass losing a chance at winning the 2022 Emmy has left many Horror aficionados displeased. In addition, Fans of the Netflix show were especially disappointed that actor Hamish Linklater who plays Father Paul and Rahul Kohli’s Sheriff Hassan performance didn’t even qualify for a nomination.
Midnight Mass has become the talk of the town since losing Emmy nominations in all categories. The overwhelming fan reaction also had Flanagan offer a reply to the snub with a Seinfeld reference. Now, Kohli even responded to disappointing news stating, “I know horror doesn’t get the respect it deserves but I’ve personally come to absolutely adore this genre and it’s community over the last couple of years. And no amount of award snobbery is going to change that.” The series creator also followed up with another tweet to share his delight by the enormous fan support. Though those saddened by Linklater’s snub have been sharing several clips of his role Father Paul’s monologue.
Some argued Kate Siegel’s eerie performance also deserved to be an Emmy nominee alongside Zendaya’s Euphoria, Laura Linney for Ozark etc. Siegel appears as Erin Greene, Riley’s ex-girlfriend and the pregnant woman working as a teacher on Crockett Island.

Midnight Mass not receiving a single Emmy nomination is absolutely criminal, arguably the best Limited Series we’ve had in years. It is Beautifully shot and has some of the best performances we’ve seen in TV in years. #midnightmass #Emmys pic.twitter.com/lO86ZFYjLb

Midnight Mass not being nominated at the Emmys is a joke. Best show of 2021. The cast were all brilliant, but Hamish Linklater, @RahulKohli13 and Samantha Sloyan should've been nominated 100%.

How Midnight Mass wasn't nominated for an Emmy is a real bummer. It was the best show of 2021. Perfect and stunning. @flanaganfilm and the whole cast and crew deserve so much recognition for this masterpiece of storytelling and terror. pic.twitter.com/rog7Td3rB5

as far as vampire media goes, midnight mass is a masterpiece of horror but i’m still in awe over hamish linklater’s control over his voice of a man terrified and trying to make sense of the incomprehensible in his own religiously deluded way, so yeah he was robbed of an emmy pic.twitter.com/58RX4wzZmS

Midnight Mass is among the more meaningful, finely crafted pieces of television in a generation. Seeing it snubbed by the Emmys is baffling and deeply disappointing. Please watch it. It's exceptional, thoughtful, brilliant, and inspiring entertainment. https://t.co/y77WkOtAge

Hamish Linklater gave one of the greatest performances in the history of horror television on Midnight Mass and the TV Academy's built-in bias against horror probably cost him a nomination pic.twitter.com/y5oj9crtLa

Midnight Mass debuted on Netflix in September 2021, a miniseries wholly directed by Mike Flanagan, the creator behind the acclaimed horror show Haunting of Hill House. Though unlike Flanagan’s earlier works – Midnight Mass’s plot is tied to religious elements, parenting, faith and addiction – real-life difficulties humans face.
For those unaware, Midnight Mass, the much-praised biblical horror story begins with a young but disgraced man out of prison. Riley Flynn has no choice but to head back to his hometown, the scarcely populated Crockett Island. But things aren’t the same as he realizes the destitute island is going through a renaissance of sorts after a peculiar priest, Father Paul takes over for Monsignor Pruitt in his stead. But a series of unexplained phenomena also take place that begs the question if something more ominous is at play.
Midnight Mass’s massive success has already resulted in Flanagan working on another series, Midnight Club based on Christopher Pike’s 1994 novel. Midnight Mass is currently streaming on Netflix.
