Actor Chris Evans, who plays Steve Rogers/Captain America in Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently announced the wrap up of his Avengers 4 reshoots through an emotional tweet hinting that his stint as the fan favorite Marvel superhero might be over. Evans first played Steve Rogers aka Captain America in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger and then went on to reprise the role in The Avengers (2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), and Avengers: Infinity War (2018).
“Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful,” Chris Evan’s tweet read.
Well, the one tweet was enough to make fans emotional about Captain America’s possible end of the journey. There was an outpouring of reaction to his tweet, mostly emotional.
Even other big Hollywood actors including Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson posted their reactions on Twitter.
“I’m not crying. I’m weeping. There’s a difference,” Ryan Reynolds tweeted.
“What a run you had brother. Congrats on breathing life into such an iconic character. Keep on keepin’ on,” Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s tweet read.
It is expected that Chris Evans final appearance as Captain America will be in Avengers 4. It is highly possible that MCU Phase 4 will see the rise of another Captain America post-Evans’ retirement. In the comics, several MCU characters such as Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), and Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon (Anthony Mackie) have replaced Steve Rogers. So, it will be interesting to find who will finally replace Chris Evans as Captain America.
Avengers 4 is set to arrive in theatres on May 3, 2019. You can check out fans’ reaction in the tweets below.
