Fantastic Four movie director update reveals Marvel Studios has ‘long list of candidates’, Kevin Feige approaching big names

Fantastic Four movie director update reveals Marvel Studios has ‘long list of candidates’, Kevin Feige approaching big names

Updates have arrived for the director search for the Fantastic Four movie and it seems Marvel Studios and Chief Kevin Feige are reportedly approaching big names, possibly A-lister directors on the lines of Sam Raimi to helm Marvel’s first family project. The movie was announced during SDCC 2019 as part of MCU’s Phase 4 slate but is still in early development with no confirmed cast members.

Ever since John Krasinski’s Reed Richards cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Fans have been pleading for updates on the Fantastic Four movie but Marvel Studios has remained mum, especially since Jon Watts’ exit. But fear not, a new update from Deadline’s senior reporter Justin Kroll indicates the ensemble flick is on “Marvel’s top ODA” though fans shouldn’t expect the director chair to be “filled anytime soon”.

Marvel Studios is reportedly still far from shortlisting its “long list of candidates” and Kroll’s source revealed, “I’d be shocked if a choice is made before labor day.” Though there is no names currently in contention or at least that’s surfaced online – Feige and the studio are approaching “big names” as well. In fact, it’s a decision influenced by Feige’s choice with Raimi which didn’t require the MCU head’s complete attention to overseeing the production. Readers can check out the tweets below.

Marvel’s hunt for big names to direct the new Fantastic Four movie shouldn’t come as a surprise since the studios’ first shot with Raimi turned out in their favor, critically as well as box office earning-wise.  After Watts’ exit, the MCU fandom has also desired to see a well-known director take over the project, like Brad Bird. Or better, even Krasinski in the director’s chair since proving himself by helming the horror franchise, A Quiet Place.

So far, the only positive update to rejoice over is the fact that Moon Knight’s producers are also involved in the new Fantastic Four movie. Though Krasinski played Mr. Fantastic, it’s unclear if he’d play the main version of the character for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Fantastic Four does not have a release date attached yet.
