Fantastic Four’s Human Torch reportedly in Doctor Strange 2, IMDb hints

Since Marvel Studios’ latest trailer for Doctor Strange 2 unpacked MCU’s Pandora box – hinting at the arrival of the Illuminati organization, some eagle-eyed fans dug a little deeper to uncover details suggesting Mr. Fantastic/Reed Richards’ debut. But it seems he won’t be the only member from the Fantastic Four to appear in the Multiverse of Madness.

Cameos in Doctor Strange 2 continue to get intriguing as the upcoming multiverse sequel nears its 2022 release. So far, the new trailer and poster have indicated brief appearances by a Captain Marvel variant, Ultron-styled drones, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and more. Now, IMDb’s page featuring Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has updated its cast & crew list which suggests the Human Torch, a member of Marvel’s first family could also debut.

While no actors have been mentioned for the role, Nicanor Mendoza III is mentioned as “costumer: Human Torch (H/T Cosmic Circus). Note, Mendoza has worked on other MCU projects as a set designer for Spider-Man: No Way Home and WandaVision episode 1 as well as being on board as a costume designer for Jon Watt’s Fantastic Four project. From the looks of it, Human Torch’s possible appearance in Doctor Strange 2 could be MCU’s official version rather than just a multiverse variant. It would be an interesting way to reveal the cast for the first family before a full-fledged appearance in their own feature flick.

Meanwhile, all eyes remain on Benedict Cumberbatch’s dual performance as Sorcerer Supreme and Sinister Supreme with much spotlight remaining on the Evil Doctor Strange inspired from the What If…? series. Speaking of which, the sequel’s producer Richie Palmer recently addressed the movie walking in the animated adaptation’s footsteps stating:

“Things get pretty trippy. We love that episode of What If…?, and we hope to do it justice,” Palmer told D23 Magazine (via The Direct). “It shows another version of Doctor Strange – one who let the universe he lived in be destroyed because of his love for Christine. If he was capable of that, for a selfish reason, is that something that our Stephen would be capable of doing, too? We’d like to think, ‘No, our guy’s the hero,’ but you never know.”

Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Wong, Elizabeth Olsen, Xochitl Gomez, Rachel McAdams and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Doctor Strange 2 will be available to experience in cinema from May 6, 2022.
