Tonight’s episode of Fear The Walking Dead Season 4 “Good Out Here” bid goodbye to a fan-favorite. Frank Dillane’s Nick Clark was shot dead in a shocking twist at the end of episode 3.
Nick was shot by Charlie with a bullet that went straight to his chest. His sister Alicia, girlfriend Luciana and Victor Strand made several attempts to resuscitate him before they gave up.
Nobody expected the departure of Dillane from the show and the sudden death left everyone shocked. However, the idea of killing Dillane’s character was planned as early as Season 3. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg explained the death of the character who has been on the show since the first season of the AMC series FTWD.
According to the showrunners, Nick’s death has been a part of the plan for quite some time and the reason why they decided to kill the series regular is Dillane himself. The actor reportedly approached the show-makers for the exit. He wanted to leave the show and explore other opportunities. Hence, the death was planned in Season 3 of Fear the Walking Dead.
“It actually goes back to season three, before Ian and I even came aboard,” Chambliss said. “Frank Dillane had asked the producers and AMC if he could leave the show because he wanted to pursue other opportunities. One of the first things we were tasked with when we came on to run season four was to really find a story that would give Nick a fitting sendoff. He’s been with the show from day one, so it was very important to us and to Frank to find a death for him that was emotional and one that would ripple forward throughout the storytelling.”
However, this may not be the last time fans will see Nick. He is still alive in the past and as per Goldberg, there is “a lot more story to tell with Nick” which reveals the reason why Nick is a different man in the present day before he died at the hands of Charlie.
Fans will have to wait until next week to find out how things play out for Nick and his dear ones in the future. Chambliss suggests that fans keep watching to find out for more about Nick.
