Warner Bros. and DC will release the first Shazam! trailer during their Hall H panel at the San Diego Comic-Con 2018 event on Saturday, July 21. Maxime Alexandre, who serves as the cinematographer on Shazam!, shared the news on social media. It still remains unconfirmed if the trailer will be released online on the same day.
Unfortunately, the cinematographer has deleted his post on Instagram. Probably from the instruction he received from the studio. But we have attached a screen grab of it below.
Entertainment Weekly recently shared an exclusive official first look from DC’s Shazam!. The picture features Zachary Levi’s Shazam donning his full superhero costume. In the picture, he can be seen enjoying a soft drink with his best friend, Freddy Freeman, played by Jack Dylan, outside a convenience store.
Talking to EW, Shazam! director David Sandberg explained how he took elements from the superhero character’s appearances in comics and animated shows to re-design the iconic costume for the big screen.
“I wanted to keep the shorter cape as a throwback to the original because that’s something that sets him apart from Superman or Batman,” Sandberg told EW. “It makes him feel a bit more Golden Age superhero, which is the vibe I’m going for.”
For those unfamiliar, Shazam! is the story of a teenager boy Billy Batson (Asher Angel) who is granted the ability to turn into a superhero (Levi) by an ancient wizard (Djimon Hounsou). Interestingly, the 14-year-old foster kid can get transformed into an adult superhero by just shouting the magical word- Shazam.
Shazam! also stars Mark Strong (Dr. Thaddeus Sivana), Grace Fulton (Mary Bromfield), Adam Brody, Michelle Borth, and Ross Butler.
WB will also be taking the wraps off the first Aquaman trailer at the SDCC event next week. Aquaman is the only DC film lined up for release this year. SDCC attendees can also expect to see some exclusive Wonder Woman 1984 footage as Gal Gadot has confirmed her attendance for the event.
Aquaman is set to debut on Dec.21, 2018, while Shazam! will open in theatres on April 5, 2019.
