As Game of Thrones approaches its endgame with Season 8 next year, rumors about spinoffs are making the rounds. Reports suggest that multiple spinoffs are underway that may involve the return of some of the fan-favorite characters from the series.
Unfortunately, Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow will not return. In his recent interview with GQ Italy, the Game of Thrones star made it clear that he will not be reprising his role as Jon Snow in any of the spinoffs, even if there was one being planned.
“I think there’s going to be spinoffs, but I’m not going to be involved in any of it,” the 31-year-old English actor said.
Harrington revealed that one of the reasons he will not return is that he comes with a huge price tag. According to him, the cast including Emilia Clarke and Lena Headey has become very expensive now.
“The great thing about ‘Thrones’ for HBO is that you can sell it in a totally different way. You could set it 300 years earlier and save a load of money because we [the cast] are very expensive now,” Harrington explained.
Rumors are that the HBO is considering a prequel of Game of Thrones. They are said to be working on five different formats to introduce after the conclusion of Game of Thrones.
Based on George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire,” Harrington has been a part of the series since Season 1. He made his first appearance in the episode titled “Winter is Coming.” From being a part of Night’s Watch, he grew to become the King of the North before he stepped down as the King and pledged his army to Daenerys Targaryen.
As reported before, Game of Thrones will not return until 2019. And when it does, the series will feature the epic war between the seven kingdoms and the Army of the dead. When the series concludes, it will reveal the ultimate winner of the war and the much coveted Iron Throne.
