Game of Thrones Season 8 Gets Delayed, HBO Officially Reveals Date

Game of Thrones (GoT) will have to wait for its final season longer than ever before. On Thursday, HBO dropped a bombshell and revealed that this year there will be no new Game of Thrones episodes. The fan-favorite series will return in 2019 with its eighth and the final season.

There have been speculations about the award-winning fantasy drama skipping the year 2018. However, in an official press release, the network confirmed the shocking news to its fans.

In addition, the network announced a switch in the crew for Game of Thrones Season 8. David Benioff, D.B Weiss along with David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik will be helming the final episodes of the series. Meanwhile, the Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill will join David Benioff and D.B. Weiss in the writers’ room.

Previously, it was announced that the final season will be the shortest season in the series, consisting only six episodes. “The epic fantasy series Game of Thrones will return for its six-episode, eighth and final season in 2019.

David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik will be the directors for the new season. Writers for the new season are David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill.

The executive producers of the series are David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Carolyn Strauss, Frank Doelger and Bernadette Caulfield. Co-executive producers are Bryan Cogman, Guymon Casady, Vince Gerardis and George R.R. Martin,” reads the official press release.

The production for the final season began in October 2017. It is expected to last until mid-2018. Showrunners previously told Entertainment Weekly, the reason behind the delay is only because they want to make the final few episodes as spectacular and memorable for the audience as possible. Hence, they are dedicating one entire year to helm the episodes.

Earlier, Aquaman actor Jason Momoa also teased season 8 with some interesting comment. so it looks like the final season has a lot of surprises instilled for fans.

Season 7 finale “The Dragon and the Wolf” ended with a big reveal about Jon Snow’s parents. And the final shot saw the Army of the Dead march towards the south. Game of Thrones Season 8 is expected to see the epic war happening. When it concludes, it will reveal the true winner of the war and the much coveted Iron Throne.
