Star Wars 9 is all set to begin filming this summer. While nothing much about the film’s plot, star cast or storyline has been revealed, Domhnall Gleeson, who portrays the character of the First Order’s General Hux in the Star Wars franchise, is hopeful that the upcoming film will explore unexpected directions, similar to the franchise’s last offering, Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
In an interview with RadioTimes, Gleeson revealed that he hopes his character will continue on the comedic path in Star Wars 9.
“What was brilliant [about Star Wars: The Last Jedi] was that it was unexpected,” said Gleeson. “And I’ve got a feeling that what JJ does may also be unexpected. I wasn’t expecting [Hux’s comedy] to be the way it went in VIII, at all. It really surprised me. And I’d say rather than played for laughs, it was written for laughs. We did it with an eye on the comic elements of it.”
The actor went ahead revealing that he cannot confirm if he is in the film or not as he hasn’t read the Star Wars: Episode 9 script yet.
“I’ve got no idea because I haven’t read a script,” Gleeson added. “I have no idea what direction he’ll take it in, or even if he’ll use me. So I’m hoping that if I’m in the next one, I’ll get to do [some more comedy].”
Gleeson is pretty confident that with J.J. Abrams’ script for Star Wars 9, he will definitely get to do something exciting in the movie, only in case if he is in for the film. Abrams has previously directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens which is one of the highest grossing Star Wars film ever.
Actor John Boyega is set to reprise his role as Finn in Star Wars Episode IX. He has already confirmed that he will begin filming in July.
Star Wars: Episode 9 is set to hit theater screens on December 20, 2019.
