‘Get to 1 Billion’- fans celebrate Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 crossing $500 million at box office earnings, stans argue quality films don’t fall under superhero fatigue

MCU fans are rooting for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to join the billion-dollar film club since the threequel crossed the $500 million mark at the global box office. While the third installment’s raving reviews helped propel its opening weekend with $100M+ earnings – word of mouth from audiences and growing fan support has GOTG Vol. 3 possibly eying an $800M range returns after its impressive $60.5M earning on the second weekend.

With GOTG Vol. 3 officially surpassing Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘s worldwide box office in less than 10 days, the next question on many stans’ minds is if it could outshine Black Panther: Wakanda Forever‘s global BO record. According to Variety, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has brought in $528 million worldwide – raking in half a million on its second week of theatrical run.

2022’s MCU films failed to crack the $1 billion with Spider-Man: No Way Home being the last Marvel title to secure the big billion number though it was in collaboration with Sony Pictures. While Black Panther 2 had a huge opening that even overshadowed DCU’s Black Adam – it still failed to live up to the first film’s earnings as well as its impact. However, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which focuses on Rocket Raccoon’s origin, is surprisingly hailed as the best final film from a franchise under the MCU.

GOTG Vol. 3’s box office just dipped about -49% in the second week which is praise-worthy for a flick releasing post-pandemic. Even so, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has piqued in the post-covid era with a whooping 1.2 billion global earnings. Even so, Vol. 3, unlike Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder ranks high in the re-watchability factor for this summer. Moreover, it also has fans hoping it will reach 1 billion by the end of its theatrical run.

James Gunn’s final Marvel film has also brought up the topic of superhero fatigue with many insisting GOTG Vol. 3 is a sign that audiences get on board when the quality is delivered. The fandom’s statements were also echoed by Gunn earlier in April. โ€œI think it doesnโ€™t have anything to do with superheroes,โ€ the Superman: Legacy helmer said. โ€œIt has to do with the kind of stories that get to be told, and if you lose your eye on the ball, which is character.

The Suicide Squad filmmaker was still in agreement that superhero fatigue was โ€œvery, very realโ€ though from the looks of it, the DC Studios CEO is unfazed by the worrisome claim, in fact, the director is at the helm of WBD’s DCU property, which is expected to release over 10 titles from Chapter 1, at a time when superhero films have struggled to find its footing at the box office.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently in theaters worldwide.
