Now that the first look of Godzilla: King of the Monsters is finally out, new information and updates about the upcoming film have started making rounds on the internet. In addition to the titular King himself, the film will also feature a host of other giant monsters including Mothra, Rodan, and G’s ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Godzilla: King of the Monsters director Michael Dougherty revealed some details about the kaiju monster, Rodan. He said that upcoming film has done justice to the flying monster’s character who has played sidekick to Godzilla in previous features.
“Rodan’s been kind of a sidekick character, but I’ve always had a soft spot for him,” Dougherty said.
He added that Rodan won’t be a minor player in the expected mayhem and will not be easy to overcome. In fact, Dougherty claims that the kaiju could be more destructive than the titular character of the movie. He also called him a winged A-bomb.
“In a lot of ways he’s more powerful than Godzilla,” the Godzilla: King of The Monsters director said. “He’s like this winged A-bomb. I think we’ve done him justice.”
Talking more about the film, Dougherty said people in the film will live with a fear that there could be more giant monsters than just Godzilla living on Earth.
“The world is reacting to Godzilla, in the same way, we would react to any other terrifying incident, in that we are overreacting,” the director said. “But there’s paranoia and endless speculation about whether he is the only one out there or whether we’re threatened by others like his kind.”
Godzilla: King of the Monsters is a follow up to 2014’s Godzilla film reboot. More information about the film is expected to be announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 event’s Hall H this year.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters will premiere in theatres on May 31, 2019.
