Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have roped in Iron Fist and Game of Thrones fame actress Jessica Henwick for their upcoming MonsterVerse crossover, Godzilla vs. Kong.
According to a report coming from Variety, Henwick has joined the Godzilla vs. Kong star cast that already includes Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Eiza Gonzalez, Zhang Ziyi, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Demian Bichir, and Julian Dennison. Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead) has also been approached for a role in the film. Details about Henwick’s character in the film remain unknown at this time.
Henwick is best known for her roles as Colleen Wing in Netflix Marvel TV shows including Iron Fist, The Defenders, and an episode of Luke Cage, Nymeria Sand in the massively popular HBO series Game of Thrones and X-wing pilot Jessika Pava in Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The cancellation of Ironfist and Luke Cage has opened the door for other opportunities for Henwick, leading to Godzilla vs. Kong. The actress is next set to appear in the sci-fi film Underwater next year alongside Kristen Stewart and T.J. Miller.
While details surrounding the plot are currently sparse, Godzilla vs. Kong will see the two titular monsters face each other in an epic battle. The film will be the fourth film in Legendary’s planned cinematic universe, titled the MonsterVerse, following 2014’s Godzilla, 2017’s Kong: Skull Island and the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard recently confirmed that the film’s production work will begin this week in Atlanta after a year’s worth of pre-production. He shared the information on his private Instagram account. He also teased that the fan-favorite Kong will be getting a slight makeover in Godzilla vs. Kong.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters will release on May 31, 2019, while Godzilla vs. Kong will hit theatres on May 22, 2020.
