DC’s Green Lantern series for HBO Max has long been in development with the last big news revealing Finn Wittrock has been cast to play the iconic golden age superhero, Guy Gardner. But fans can rest assured progress is being made as the American Horror Story star himself claims he’s prepping up to get shape for the masculine role.
Wittrock recently addressed his work for the DC property series during a Q&A on Instagram. While the actor remained in composure to avoid revealing unnecessary spoilers – he praised the show’s script and confirmed he’s continuing to build on his physique.
“I am sworn to secrecy, and especially since I am new to the DCU, I don’t want them to kick me out of the universe! But I can tell you that the script is great, and that I’m just starting to get into guy-Gardner shape!.”
Last year’s report on Wittrock’s character was described as as: “Wittrock’s Guy Gardner/Green Lantern is a hulking mass of masculinity, and, as rendered in the comics, an embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism. And yet, Guy is somehow likable.” While there’s currently no word of Hal Jordan’s involvement, Alan Scott and Simon Baz will also be prominent in the show.
The series centering over the Green Lantern Corps is set within the DCEU and will showcase the first Green Lantern on Earth in 1941 through also secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott played by Jeremy Irvine. Whereas the “cocky alpha Guy Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta” will appear in the 1984 timeline.
Green Lantern has Greg Berlanti, Seth Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim serving as writers with Grahme-Smith also on board as the showrunner with Berlanti executive producing. Season 1 will consist of 10 episodes with Sinestro and Kilowog, two other prominent Lantern characters from comics also expected to feature.
Green Lantern series does not have a release date attached yet.
