The fact that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is still without a director even after months of Disney firing James Gunn has left fans wondering about the franchise’s future. Gunn was fired last year after some of his controversial tweets on pedophilia and rape resurfaced on social media. While a number of names have been popping up as probable directorial candidates to helm Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Disney is yet to officially attach anyone to the film.
A Twitter user who goes by the username @FakeNewsMags tweeted at both Walt Disney Studios and Marvel Studios requesting them to hire Baby Driver director Edgar Wright or Thor: Ragnarok helmer Taika Waititi, or Into The Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller to direct the Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
Soon after the tweet went viral, director Edgar Wright himself took to Twitter to suggest who he would like to see direct the next Guardians of the Galaxy film and his suggestion is simple enough.
“I’d like to throw in this suggestion too: @JamesGunn,” Wright noted in response to @FakeNewsMags tweet.
Chris Miller also came up with his own opinion on Gunn, suggesting that he would “be a good fit tonally.” You can check out the tweets below.
While even past Marvel directors want the studio to re-hire Gunn for Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Disney isn’t ready to take the move. At the Golden Globes awards, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige recently confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is right on track. However, he refused to give any other information about the film.
“Guardians will happen,” Feige told MTV News adding, “When, where, how? For a later time.”
Feige went to say that he is happy for Gunn who is currently penning WB’s Suicide Squad 2’s script. It is believed that the film studio will still use Gunn’s script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The film does not have a release date assigned yet.
