20th Century Fox’s Deadpool 2 as expected has raked in an impressive $125 million at the domestic box office and $301 million worldwide. While the sequel film fell short of the original Deadpool film’s opening weekend earnings of $132.4 million, it has got the second-highest opening weekend for an R-rated movie ever, beating It which sat at $123 million in the list.
Deadpool 2 has got the third-best domestic opening of the year to date behind after Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther. By looking at the numbers, it won’t be hard to conclude that the film is a complete hit both critically and commercially.
Congratulatory messages have started pouring in for the film for its impressive performance at the box office. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn recently took to Twitter to congratulate Ryan Reynolds and everyone involved with Deadpool 2.
Gunn tweeted a congratulatory message acknowledging Ryan Reynolds, director David Leitch, screenwriter Rhett Reese, Morena Baccarin, and the rest of the Deadpool 2 team along with a mash-up picture of Baby Groot and Deadpool. The picture shows baby Groot getting a Deadpool style makeover with paint and a brush.
“Enormous congrats to @VancityReynolds, @DavidMLeitch, @RhettReese, @missmorenab & company on Deadpool 2 opening to what looks like over $130 million this weekend. Keep the fun stuff coming!” Gunn’s Twitter post read.

The Deadpool 2 team is yet to respond to Gunn’s message. The director’s next Guardians of the Galaxy movie, tentatively titled Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, currently slated for release in May 2020. The production and shooting work is expected to begin sometime next year. The film is likely to feature the Guardians of the Galaxy characters who will survive the battle with Thanos in next year’s Avengers 4.
Deadpool 2 is currently playing in theatres now.
