Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is still without a director after James Gunn’ shocking exit. But thankfully, we now know that Marvel Studios and Disney still have an intention of making the film using Gunn’s script. James was fired back in July after some of his past controversial tweets resurfaced online. He had reportedly finished his Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 script prior to being fired.
During a recent interview with Tulsa World, James Gunn’s actor brother, Sean Gunn, who plays Kraglin and also does mo-cap work for Rocket in GOTG films, revealed that while he doesn’t know what’s going with the project at the moment, Disney is still interested in making Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 using his brother’s script.
“I don’t really know yet what’s going on with ‘Guardians 3,’” Sean said. “I know that Disney still wants to make the movie. I know that they have every intention of using the script that my brother wrote. Obviously, that was a very unfortunate situation for everybody, most of all him, but I am also somebody who had been preparing to spend half a year making that movie and now that’s up in the air.”
When asked about the rumors of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 getting stalled, Sean said that’s not the case as Marvel recently contacted him confirming their plans to go ahead with the movie.
“Obviously, I think it’s a tricky proposition for them to find another director to step in — and also the scheduling of a lot of other actors who are incredibly busy can’t be easy,” Gunn said. “But I know that they plan on making the movie. I had not been contacted at all for a while, but I was recently contacted by Marvel saying, ‘Yeah, we do plan to make this movie. We’re just not sure when yet.'”
The actor added that whatever unfortunately may have happened should not deprive fans of the film which they love and want to see.
“Honestly, that’s really what I cared about more than anything with all of this,” Sean said. “I don’t want the fans to be deprived of something that they really love and really want.”
Well, this is definitely good news for GOTG fans who are disappointed with Gunn’s firing. Although James won’t be making a return, at least his story will give a perfect ending to the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has originally been slated for 2020 release. It currently remains unclear when the film will actually head into production.
