Earlier this month, it was announced that Disney had decided to reinstate James Gunn as the director of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3. Since then, the question that has been on fans’ mind is when the threequel project would go into production.
A new listing from Film Magazine Production Weekly reveals that Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 would go into production in February 2021 at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta. No other details have been mentioned except for the list of cast and the project’s working title which is ‘HOT CHRISTMAS’.
After Gunn’s firing earlier in 2018, we published a similar report which revealed that Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 was pushed back to 2021. And now, the current report states the same information. bu the listing is an updated report which could mean that the studio had this planned all along.
In the report put out by THR on the rehiring of James Gunn, the trade revealed that according to their insiders, the studio never engaged in the search for a new director but instead had returned to Gunn and made a deal. It is possible that the studio had strategized this since the start and had kept the news under wrap.
If so, then Gunn’s current project with Warner Bros.’ The Suicide Squad may have not played a role in the Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3’s delay. Perhaps, Disney/Marvel Studios intended to delay the threequel intentionally after Gunn’s backlash over his controversial tweets.
On the bright side, Gunn seems to have his script ready for the project. And another question that fans’ should be asking is if the director has in fact managed to convince Mark Hamill to play a role in the movie.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 does not have a release date assigned yet. but from the looks of it, the movie might hit theaters sometime in mid or late 2022.
