All good things come to an end & that seems to be the case for the Peter Quill-led (Chris Pratt) intergalactic outlaws’ journey in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. But with newcomers like Will Poulters’ Adam Warlock and the louring big-bad of the threequel, Chukwudi Iwuji’s High Evolutionary – MCU fans are anticipating a rollercoaster of emotions from watching the third installment, especially after witnessing glimpses of Rocket Raccoon’s backstory as a baby and the first look at his love interest, the sapient Otter known as Lady Lylla.
Thanks to CCXP Day 1 2022, Marvel Studios unveiled a new 2-minute trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The footage begins with a humorous spin when the Guardians land on a never before seen planet, likely the Counter-Earth – and Star-lord’s introduction, “Hello, we come in peace” backfires on them when Drax (Dave Bautista) throws a ball at a child (mixed signals, right?).
The trailer then jumps to scenes of Star-Lord, who clearly seems to be hung over Gamora’s (Zoe Saldana) death. A shot of Baby Raccoon appears with Mantis’ (Pom Klementieff) narration, “Don’t forget, where we came from.” The GOTG Vol. 3 trailer then transitions to show Earth-TRN734’s Gamora, last seen in Avengers: Endgame. She is shown staring at a picture, possibly a memorable moment of Star-Lord and Earth-616’s Gamora? one can only hope.
The guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer gets fans weepy over Rocket Raccoon’s backstory
The Guardians are shown residing in Knowhere and yes, Cosmo the Spacedog is part of the space pirates ensemble. Going by the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer, it’s clear James Gunn did not pull any punches in delivering an impactful, emotion-driven story in this threequel, which has been teased as a definitive conclusion to this Guardians arc. Any fans in doubt can take a look at the synopsis below.

1. This is definitely Counter Earth.
2. High Evolutionary is responsible for creating Rocket.
3. Gotta admit, marrying the New Men concept with Rocket Racoon is kinda brilliant. https://t.co/dpCBWk5ZA4

Super-Ego.
The High Evolutionary is going to mess with what's left of Ego and what's left of Knowhere…
…to make…or possibly even EVOLVE a Celestial.
Making Super-Ego.
That might be a Knowhere eyeball there with Harbulary Evolution Energy from Rocket's bomb inside. https://t.co/RW1SosthLD pic.twitter.com/yO8OGEmvCo

“Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians.”
It’s possible the synopsis could be referring to “protecting” Rocket, as he can be heard saying, “Pete, I’m done running.” The trailer then shows a wide shot of what looks like the remains of planet Ego but it’s cut quickly to show the High Evolutionary alongside his lab experiments. The Guardians are shown escaping some type of prison with Drax wounded. But there are darker moments as well, one scene shows Star-Lord screaming in misery but the scene-stealer certainly goes to Rocket and Lylla the Otto hugging each other. The Fan reactions below say it all.
In terms of big reveals, the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 first trailer offers the first full look at Adam Warlock who is shown fighting Nebula (Karen Gillan). While the larger fanbase is excited to see the golden cosmic force’s debut, the wait to experience it in theaters is five months apart as of this writing.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters on May 5, 2023.
