Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will put an end to the trilogy featuring the current iteration of the Guardians including Star-Lord/Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel), and Nebula (Karen Gillan).
Writer/director James Gunn has confirmed on Twitter that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will give a definitive conclusion to the Guardians trilogy saga.
“Well I mean Vol 3 will end this iteration of the Guardians and complete the story of the three films,” Gunn tweeted.
A lot of fans are disappointed to know that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the end of the trilogy and that they won’t be able to see their favorite Guardians Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Mantis, Rocket, Groot, and Nebula together again. However, there are also fans who think that end of the trilogy will pave way for solo films for some of the Guardians and that they might see some of their favorite intergalactic characters pop up in other MCU films in future.
You can check out fans’ reaction to Gunn’s tweet below.
Notably, after Avengers: Infinity War’s tragic ending which saw almost all the Guardian members except Rocket Raccoon and Nebula turn to dust post Thanos’ snap, it would be interesting to see how the characters resurrect in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It is speculated that all the dusted heroes will be brought back through the use of the Quantum Realm.
It’s currently unsure if the threequel will take place post-Avengers 4 events or prior to it as directors Anthony and Joe Russo have teased a possibility where the film could take place prior to Avengers 4 events.
Actor Chris Pratt had previously confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will begin filming in January 2019. While the film does not have a confirmed release date as yet, it is expected to hit theatres sometime in May 2020.

This iteration? Does that mean your take on the Guardians or this particular team? I don't know if I'm ready to say goodbye to this little family of misfits yet. 🙁

Yeah! After volume 3, the characters will likely have different goals and will be set on different paths which means they could pop up in any future mcu movie. Exciting times for marvel 👀

I understand why you're doing this but is it possible that we are going to see the Guardians in their own solo films or at least in other movies? Iron Man 3 was the end of the IM trilogy yet we still see him in Ultron, Civil War, Homecoming and Infinity War.

I really hope this is the case. I am not ready to say goodbye to Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax just yet, although ending their time as the members of the Guardians in Vol. 3 makes sense and I support that regardless.

I know, man, but today I was watching Guardians again and I kind of got emotional lol
I just hope they continue together after vol 3, even though they have no more movies.
