Jon Bernthal, who played Frank Castle in The Punisher named Spider-Man star Tom Holland when asked who he thought his character Castle could form an alliance with in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Jon Bernthal took on the role of Frank Castle aka The Punisher in a Netflix series that premiered in November. Bernthal, in The Punisher, portrays the character of an ex-soldier, armed-to-the-elbows whose family is brutally murdered by government black ops.

Castle is a Marvel superhero without any superpower. Instead, he uses machine guns, sledgehammers, and the occasional vat of cement to fight his enemies.

Bernthal, who was present at the long Q&A panel along with co-star Ebon Moss-Bachrach at the ACE Comic Con in Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, was asked who, as per him could Frank Castle form an alliance within MCU. Bernthal immediately replied it would be Tom Holland. He said:

“I’m in love with Tom Holland, you know what I mean? That’s my dude. For me, it’s not about — I have no aspirations or desire to do anything besides what I’m doing. I love this character, I believe in him, he’s in my bones, I feel honored to play him, and I want to keep playing him.

So in all honesty, there’s no part of me that says, ‘Oh, I hope I’m in the movies.’ It’s whatever it’ll be. That being said, there’s one character and one actor that I just have the utmost respect for in the Marvel Universe and without a question it’s Tom.

He’s equal parts a good person as a great actor, and he does all that stuff himself, he’s a sick athlete, he’s got a great family and I think the world of him.”

Bernthal and Holland previously worked together in period drama Pilgrimage, where the two participated in audition tapes for their roles.

Frank Castle as the anti-hero was first featured in 1974 issue of The Amazing Spider-Man. Castle was assigned to take out the friendly neighborhood superhero himself.

Jon Bernthal is all set to reappear in The Punisher season 2. Whereas Holland will also be seen playing his part as the web-slinger in Marvel’s upcoming films Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. The Spidey actor is also all set for his sequel project which will be one of the first films in MCU Phase 4.
