‘Harley Quinn debut?’: Joaquin Phoenix starrer Joker 2 announcement has DC fans wondering if Clown Princess of Crime could appear

Todd PhilipsJoker 2 script for Joaquin Phoenix may have hinted at Harley Quinn’s arrival or at least according to some DC fans that are under the impression that another clown would be introduced. Speculations arose based on the working title for the sequel to 2019’s ‘Joker’ which became the first R-rated movie to cross $1 billion at the global box office.

Arthur Fleck will return in Joker 2 and it seems The Hangover director and Phoenix will reunite again for the potential R-rated sequel. The unforeseen announcement came from Philip’s Instagram post with one image of the Joker 2 script with the movie’s title Joker: Folie a Deux and another still of Phoenix reading the manuscript.

The French title, “Folie a Deux” roughly translates “Madness for Two” has many DC fans conjecturing it as a hint to The Clown Princess of Crime. The theory has caught on with many already sharing their preferred actor to play Dr. Harleen Quinzel. Readers can check out reactions below.

Another theory floating around indicates it could be mean Arthur Fleck will deal with a Joker imposter and some hope it could Willem Dafoe playing it. Though it should be noted the term Folie a Deux is associated with a rare disorder or better put, a shared delusional disorder in partners of individuals.

The first film addressed Pseudobulbar affect, a real-world disorder that causes uncontrollable laughing or crying so it seems the second installment will follow the same route. And who better to characterize this disorder than Harley Quinn? Or could it be Batman? It’s unclear at the moment until an official announcement comes from Warner Bros. Discovery.

Philips’s name popped up in an earlier report claiming the director was sought out by WBD to lead DC live-action properties. Philips acknowledged his interest to start an Elseworld “dark” universe early on though it was rejected by the then studio executives. But perhaps there’s new-found hope with David Zaslav? Let’s hope so.

Joker movie is currently available to stream on Prime Video.
