‘Did Harry Styles just spit on Chris Pine?’: Internet in splits watching clip from Don’t Worry Darling premiere at Venice Film Festival

‘Did Harry Styles just spit on Chris Pine?’: Internet in splits watching clip from Don’t Worry Darling premiere at Venice Film Festival

The internet is convinced Chris Pine and Harry Styles don’t get along after a clip of the Don’t Worry Darling co-stars from Venice Film Festival went viral showing Styles supposedly spitting on Pine. Although it’s hard to spot a visual confirmation from the viral circulating video, the Dungeons & Dragons star pauses with a startled look and seems to brush away the incident.

Don’t Worry Darling continues to make news but for all the wrong reasons as the film’s star-studded cast’s off-screen spectacle was in the spotlight at the 79th Venice Film Festival screening.  As if that wasn’t bad enough, the 42-year-old star participated in the press conference interviews with Styles where Pine appears to be spaced out.

Some Pine fans also spotted a clip of the actor putting on his sunglasses as the lights were cut for the film’s screening, many taking it as an indication of his disinterest in engaging with the project’s promotions. In addition, images of Chris from the conference are going viral with many speculating that he appears to be vexed or rather annoyed. Nonetheless, The spitting claim tops it all and has the internet divided, some even comparing it to Will Smith‘s Oscar slap and appreciating Pine for keeping his composure. Readers can check it out below.

Directed by Olivia Wilde, Don’t Worry Darling is a psychological thriller set in the 1950s. The movie centers on a couple participating in a utopian experimental community called the Victory Project where Styles plays the husband Jack Chambers and Black Widow star Florence Pugh as housewife Alice. Though doubt lingers in Alice over her husband working for a company that claims to change the world for the better but could be hiding alarming secrets.

While the initial hype for the mystery feature had audiences’ interest piqued, the recent round of early reviews has shattered hopes with a 45% rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, Pugh’s role is the talk of the town with critics commending her performance. Don’t Worry Darling also stars Gemma Chan, KiKi Layne, Kate Berlant and Nick Kroll.

It should be noted that Don’t Worry Darling received a 4-minute standing ovation after its screening. But Variety noted that Pugh distanced herself from Wilde to the point where she didn’t face her and instead interacted with co-star Kroll. In addition, Florence walked out to the exit which cut short the ovation as rest of the cast members also followed her.

Olivia Wilde’s Shia LaBeouf incident may have led Florence to limit press for Don’t Worry Darling

Before the Styles-Pine controversy, Pugh and Wilde reportedly had an altercation on the Don’t Worry Darling set. The spat incident got messier when Wilde claimed she fired Shia LaBeouf to “protect” the cast, sighting “his work process was not conducive to the ethos” Olivia demanded. But the Fury star hit back at the allegation by sharing a video of Olivia pleading for Shia’s return where she also refers to Pugh as, “I think this might be a bit of a wake-up call for Miss Flo, and I want to know if you’re open to giving this a shot with me, with us.”

Post the video’s public release, The Wrap reported that Florence won’t engage in any form of press after her appearance for the premiere at the Venice Film Festival and red carpet.  Currently, Pugh is engaged with another Warner Bros. project, filming for Dune: Part Two.

Don’t Worry Darling is scheduled to hit theatres on September 23.
