Hawkeye finale is all set to stream this Christmas Eve week and as the Marvel Studios series nears its end, one particular subtle moment from episode 6 deserves its spotlight for offering a Black Widow a happy arc in the end. It’s a story narrative that Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johnasson) earned as a perfect sendoff but the events of Avengers: Endgame said otherwise.

So far, Hawkeye has had several tribute moments to pay respect to Natasha’s Black Widow. In fact, Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) still struggles over her loss and the life he gets to live thanks to her sacrifice. Added, Natasha’s part in ending the Red Room program helped more than just rescue the other Black Widows. Post-blip, it even allows one of them to finally start a family.

Hawkeye episode 5 titled “Ronin” gave a brief backstory connecting to the 2021’s Black Widow movie. Yelena (Florence Pugh) and Sonya (Yssa Mei Panganiban) are on a mission to rescue every Black Widow and cure them of their chemical altered state of mind.   Though it turns out, Ana (Annie Hamilton), the Black Widow Assassin is not one that needs any rescuing after revealing she wasn’t brainwashed like the others. Fast forward to Yelena’s blip and immediate post-blip arrival, she’s shocked to see Ana with a new family.

She later explains to Yelena, “I got married. We adopted three years ago, it’s been amazing”. The subtle reference to Ana starting a new life may have likely slipped off a lot of fans’ radar due to Yelena’s somber moment. Yet it’s the happy ending that many Romanoff fans would have expected for the one and true Black Widow. Avengers: Age of Ultron had a brief scene detailing her emotional state over her inability to have a child while talking to Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo). Though she hoped to start new with Bruce, it never came to fruition. Still, one can only wonder perhaps Natasha gets to experience parenthood in a “What If” type parallel universe?  Nevertheless, Natasha’s sister could find the happy ending her sister never got. It will be interesting to see how MCU Phase 4 would continue to showcase the White Widow.

Hawkeye episode 6 has a lot to uncover in the criminal conspiracy involving Vincent Donoforio’s Kingpin and Vera Farmiga’s Eleanor Bishop.  Furthermore, Yelena is still after Clint and will have another showdown. The finale will be available to stream on Disney Plus on Wednesday.
