HBO Max reportedly developing a Gotham Knights movie for DCEU

It seems The CW isn’t the only network developing a Gotham Knights project. A new report claims HBO Max is also working on a live-action feature with the Bat-family, set in the DC Extended Universe. The movie will have a trio of superheroes and will reportedly even feature Deathstroke.

The DC film’s main continuity remains puzzling with The Flash movie expected to course correct the universe through a multiverse narrative. Several set photos from Batgirl have showcased the impact of the Flashpoint-Esque time travel caused in the Andy Muschietti directed standalone. But what’s next for the Batman universe with Michael Keaton’s Dark Knight expected to replace Ben Affleck’s Batman? Well, fans could be in for an ensemble of sorts’ movie from Batman’s sidekicks.

The Gotham Knights movie is reportedly being developed by HBO Max and DC, as stated by Insider Nick Santos from ThatHashtagShow. Furthermore, the team will comprise of Leslie Grace‘s Batgirl, Nightwing and Red Hood. Although the movie is still in early development – some plot points reveal it will center over the death of a prominent Batman villain and prompts an investigation from the trio to uncover the man behind the murder.

Rumors from early January also indicated that Nightwing has been cast for the Batgirl movie. Dick Grayson’s role is reportedly brief and will be fleshed out in future projects.

Note, the report also says the main villain for Gotham Knights movie hasn’t been revealed, though Deathstroke will have a few confrontations with the team. Readers are advised to take this news with a grain of salt till an official announcement. Still, it’s interesting to see Warner Bros. flesh out the DCEU’s Batverse while Matt Reeves’ universe also does the same.

With Warner Bros. shifting the release dates for upcoming DC film projects – it seems the wait to uncover the future of the DCEU slate is long. For now, fans can look forward to DC’s League of Super-Pets which has Batman (voice by Keanu Reeves) with his sidekick, Ace the Bat-hound (Kevin Hart).
