Jason Momoa has all but confirmed his association with the Lobo role in James Gunn‘s DCU, or at least that is what fans believe after the Aquaman 2 star shared a cryptic message to his followers on social media. Rumors of Momoa potentially playing the Superman villain role have been rampant since the formation of DC Studios under Warner Bros. Discovery’s new leadership.
It’s starting to look like an announcement on the DC Bible from James Gunn could come any day but there’s one element that could not come as a surprise to the DCU pundits and that’s Jason Momoa’s possibly being onboard to play as the cigar-chomping bounty hunter of the new interconnected universe.
The Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom actor popped up on his Instagram stories to discuss a piece of great news regarding the future of DCU. Moreover, Momoa spoke highly of Gunn but was especially thankful for Peter Safran, who is also the producer of the Aquaman franchise. In addition, the DCEU star also gave a shoutout to WBD CEO David Zaslav.
“Four years ago, I had the jeep out front… Y’all remember four years ago? I was screaming, wasn’t I? … Screaming when I left Warner Bros. Everybody ready?,” the actor asked before shouting, “YAHOO!” He continued, “Four years again. It’s a mystery, baby… I’ve got some really good news. Great news with Warner Bros. Amazing. Wish I could tell you, but here it is. Peter [Safran], I love you. James [Gunn], I love you. David [Zaslav]. Okay. To the future, to the future.”
Jason Momoa fans think he is Lobo in DCU
While Momoa did not directly confirm if he’s a part of the potential Lobo project – the DCU fans and CBM critics are convinced he will be playing the anti-hero. Furthermore, with Gunn hinting at his interest to introduce Lobo since taking on the job of DCU’s architect – many are waiting to hear the Lobo news along with details on the reboot Superman movie featuring a new Man of Steel.

Jason Momoa was just Momoa in an Aquaman costume.
Lobo fits Momoa like a glove. He can be Lobo and still be Jason at the same time. It's Perfection.

For those unaware, Lobo is a well-known antagonist but rather has more anti-hero traits. Nonetheless, he is an immortal alien that has been a thorn to Superman in the comics and the fan-favorite animated series. Warner Bros. film has made multiple attempts to make a Lobo project, one which even had Michael Bay attached as the director but a script that required an unnecessary $200 million budget.
It will be interesting to see James Gunn’s plans for Lobo, especially after seeing his works on The Suicide Squad handling multiple anti-heroes with extreme villainous motives. Fortunately, the DC Multimedia head is expected to unveil the plans for the first few films of DCU sometime this January 2023.
