Since James Gunn accepted his new role as DC Studios CEO, many CBM fans have been curious about Kevin Feige’s reaction to the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s director taking the helm of Warner Bros. DCEU. Moreover, the news of Gunn’s position, which is akin to the MCU chief’s role at Marvel Studios, had many speculating the DC vs. Marvel rivalry is back on. Though the Peacemaker helmer’s recent response to one such comment says otherwise.
The brain behind the Guardians of the Galaxy Franchise is now the architect of future DC Films, James Gunn along with Aquaman 2 producer Peter Safran has been put in charge of steering the ship for WBD’s live-action feature, TV and animation projects. Their new responsibilities have renewed hope among DCU fans though it has also amplified baseless allegations by fans asking queries like, “So you hate kevin feige and marvel now?”
Fortunately, James Gunn was quick to shatter that misconception by revealing that Feige was the first to learn of his DC Studios chief role. And The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker star John Cena was next in line to hear about his DCEU head job. He further added that neither DCEU nor MCU’s downfall could benefit each other instead both motion picture brands have a “common goal of keeping the theater-going experience vibrant & alive!” Readers can check it out in the tweet below.
Not only do I love Kevin, he was the 1st person I told after I did the deal with DC (@JohnCena was the 2nd). Contrary to popular belief, a dollar less for Marvel is not a dollar more for DC. DC & Marvel have the common goal of keeping the theater-going experience vibrant & alive! https://t.co/5iiGEWS5Zc

Feige also responded to Gunn’s job at WBD by jokingly reminding the director of his pending work at Marvel Studios. Speaking at the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premiere, the Marvel films president said, “I speak to James almost every day. We have a wonderful thing called the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special coming out. We have a wonderful thing called Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 coming out in May. How he’ll have any time to work on DC until May I don’t know, but once he does have the time I’ll be very excited. I’ll be first in line.”
For years, James Gunn has been a beacon on social media for uniting DC & Marvel fans under one banner as just cinephiles enjoying comic book-based titles in live-action. The director has even requested time and again to stop the comparison between MCU and DCEU.
Gunn will begin his new job overseeing DC Studios at the start of November. But the director’s schedule is already jam-packed with the GOTG threequel, Holiday Special and DC’s Peacemaker season 2 for HBO Max.
