Hellboy Reboot Gets Positive Response & Was Praised For Its Core R Rating Post Test Screenings

Lionsgate has reportedly begun conducting test screenings for the Hellboy reboot movie to gauge audiences’ reaction on the film.  Such test screenings are often conducted by big film studios to look out for ways to improve the movie as much as they can before its release. Usually, new scenes or characters are added to the film post-test screenings to make it in line with audiences’ expectations.

YouTube channel Mr. H Reviews asked a person who attended one of such recent Hellboy reboot test screenings in Los Angeles to find out his reaction about the film. As per his review, the movie was quite good to watch.

In the review video, Mr. H explained that his source described the Hellboy reboot as an incredibly violent and a core R rated movie. But, despite being an R-rated movie, the film has got a fun tone.

According to the reviewer, the film did justice to all the comic book mytho characters it is based upon. He applauded the performances of Stranger Things star David Harbour as Hellboy and American Gods alum Ian McShane as Hellboy’s father Professor Broom. The new Hellboy film is a reboot that has no connection to the first two films directed by Guillermo del Toro.

During an interview with Deadline, when Hellboy creator Mike Mignola was asked why they chose to use the same title for the film, he said the title signifies a fresh start for a reborn franchise.

Honestly, I was a little surprised that they didn’t give it a subtitle,” Mignola said. “They would like this to be the first of many new Hellboy movies and if they had a subtitle it might make it a little confusing. Is it a sequel like the second del Toro film [Hellboy II: The Golden Army from 2008]? I suspect calling this one just Hellboy sends the message that this is the first one in a new series of movies.”

The Hellboy reboot film will arrive in theatres on April 12, 2019.
